I have to agree, these images seem more powerful than they should be. Beyond this he mould an object or objects to how he wants you to view it. For example potentially the image of the dead butterflies could become quite sinister, I am not disputing that the image does not have deadly side, it is dead butterflies after all, however he has also created an image of artistic beauty, and pattern, that seems to take your mind off what you are actually looking at. Similarly the leaves of the grass appear dynamic; maybe this is due to the un-natural look of the grass and how the leaves are placed evenly. This makes the image look odd in terms it is not how you would normally envisage a nature scene.

The material used is bizarre, the butterflys and then the wood in the top picture, but like you said interesting how you can make one thing potray something totally different from what you make of it, like you sadi the dead butterflies become a pattern.
Also is the last picture a cover from Athlete Tourist album or a different album...
